Mount Sinai South Nassau will honor Rabbi Dr. Aaron Glatt for his medical leadership at its annual Soirée Under the Stars on motzei Shabbat, Nov. 7, at The Lannin in Eisenhower Park. The gala will raise funds for the hospital’s expansion of cardiovascular services, including adult open-heart surgery.

Glatt, chair of Mount Sinai South Nassau’s Department of Medicine, chief of infectious diseases and hospital epidemiologist, will receive the hospital’s Mary Pearson Award. An internationally recognized infectious-disease specialist, he has served as chair of medicine and chief of infectious diseases since 2015.

Glatt is also assistant rabbi at Young Israel of Woodmere who played a leading role in the hospital’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, overseeing initiatives that included the use of monoclonal antibodies, the rollout of vaccines and the launch of the hospital’s Vaxmobile. He also oversees the hospital’s Infectious Diseases Society of America Designated Center of Excellence in Antimicrobial Stewardship.

“Dr. Glatt’s clinical acumen has been key to Mount Sinai South Nassau’s advancements in patient safety, quality, infection prevention, and antibiotic administration and the multiple awards the hospital has received for patient safety and the quality of care,” said Alan Wong, DO, chief medical officer.

“We are grateful for his leadership.”

The Mary Pearson Award is named for the hospital’s founding administrator and recognizes an individual for extraordinary effort and contributions that advance the hospital’s commitment to the community.

Hospital Advisory Board member and Hewlett Harbor resident Steven Gold is the gala’s principal honoree. Nydia White, RN, director of nursing in the Department of Medicine, also will be honored, and a posthumous award will be presented to the family of the late Wayne Lipton, a longtime hospital board member.

The Soirée will benefit “Bringing Heart Home,” a campaign supporting the expansion of Mount Sinai South Nassau’s cardiovascular services. The planned expansion includes adult open-heart surgery as well as additional cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology and CT angiography capabilities.

The gala will feature an extended cocktail hour beginning at 6:30 pm, music, dancing and a mentalist. Food will include a kosher option.
