The Jewish Star is a 24-year-old independent news operation that is part of RCI (Richner Communications Inc), a 100- employee family-owned company with offices in Garden City and Riverdale.
Positions are full-time in-person or hybrid (but part-time and freelance inquires may be considered).
News Reporter (September 2026)
Our team covers news that matters to Modern Orthodox communities in Metro New York (Long Island, Queens, Manhattan’s Upper East Side and Upper West Side, Riverdale and Westchester).
Assignments include community events; school, business and health news; local personalities; Jewish institutions; holidays and entertainment; antisemitism and antizionism; politics; Jewish America; the impact of developments in Israel on our local communities, and more.
Position offers expert mentoring, starting salary of $36,400 to $39,520 plus a full benefits package that includes medical, dental, 401(k) and Jewish and secular holidays — all in a supportive, collegial and kosher environment.

Responsibilities
•Lead a growing team of correspondents
•Initiate and refine story ideas
•Assign and write articles
•Edit staff and freelance submissions
•Verify rights to submitted art
•Organize print and web layouts, working with page designers and AI software
•Expand our digital footprint (including website, e-newsletters and social media)
•Help plan and execute Jewish-centric events
•Work with the Publisher and RCI management team on a range of common projects
