Delegates to the American Federation of Teachers’ national convention will weigh a raft of anti-Israel resolutions when they gather in Washington starting July 16.
Proposals call for an end to Israeli and U.S. military action involving Iran and Lebanon, $50,000 for UNICEF’s Gaza relief program and a campaign urging members to donate.
Another resolution, titled “No Endorsement for Genocide Enablers,” calls for withholding political endorsements from elected officials who support military aid to Israel.
The convention agenda cautions that including a resolution does not mean the union endorses it or that delegates will debate or adopt it.
The AFT represents about 1.8 million members, but elected delegates — not the full membership — will vote on resolutions, constitutional amendments and union leadership.
