St. John’s adds new tool in breast cancer fight

Posted

Throughout October — National Breast Cancer Awareness Month — the Mammography Service at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital will offer extended hours — Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8 am to 8 pm and Saturdays from 8 am to 4 pm (regular hours on Tuesday and Fridays, 8 am to 4 pm). Patients should bring a doctor’s referral. Most insurances are accepted.

St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, in Far Rockaway, has advanced the fight against this pervasive disease by offering a new cutting edge digital mammography system.

This system, a GE Healthcare Senographe Digital Mammography system, provides physicians with clear and precise all-digital images, rather than images on X-ray film. What’s more, the system provides the largest field of view currently available, which can be extremely helpful for precision imaging of patients with diverse shapes and sizes.

Mammograms are among the best early detection methods, yet 13 million American women 40 years of age or older have never had a mammogram, according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.

St. John’s offers women and men advanced imaging services, including a state-of-the-art bone density system for diagnosis of osteoporosis and a new MRI as well.
