Kristen Waterman of HALB was named the NYS Junior Division Teacher of the Year for National History Day, in recognition of her outstanding commitment to historical research, student achievement and excellence in the classroom. She joined HALB students who traveled to SUNY Oneonta to compete in NYS History Day, bringing three projects to the competition centered around this year’s theme, “Revolution, Reaction, and Reform.” HALBers won: 1st Place, Junior Group Website: “A Declaration of Her Own: A Revolution in Seneca Falls,” by Isabella Deutsch, Tamar Oppenheimer, Leanne Perry and Lilly Rattner. 3rd Place, Junior Group Website: “Building Talent, Breaking Barriers: Branch Rickey’s Revolution in Baseball,” by Sam Medetsky, Kobe Stern, Yoni Fischbein, Daniel Sacks and Rafi Levine.
