Cedarhurst - The Beis Medrash of Cedarhurst is introducing a Flexible Morning Learning Program, which began on Tu B'Shevat Monday Feb. 9 and will take place every Monday through Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. There are shiurim and chavrusas in Chumash, Gemara, Halacha and Chovos Halevavos. West Hemspstead - The second Long Island Jewish Community Ping Pong tournament will be held on Sunday Feb. 15, at Anshei Shalom, 472 Hempstead Ave. Schedule is 11:00 a.m. adult men, followed at 1:00 p.m. by adult women, teen girls(ages 11-16) and children (ages7-10), and finally at 2:30 p.m. teen boys (ages11-16). Israel - Scholarship applications are now available for the 2009-2010 academic year for those planning to spend the year pursuing Jewish Studies in Israel. The Alisa Flatow Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by the family of the late Alisa Flatow who was killed in a terrorist attack in Kfar Darom, Israel on April 9, 1995. She was spending the year studying Judaism in Israel. Applications are available only from our web site: www.alisafund.org. Applications should be submitted on-line. Deadline for receipt of all completed applications is Feb. 15, 2009. It is not necessary for a student to be accepted to a school in order to apply. Oceanside - The Friedberg JCC is hosting a Family Show: A Day in the Life of a Book with Author/Illustrator Steven Petruccio on Wednesday, Feb. 18 from 2-3 p.m. Using actual sketches and finished artwork, Petruccio will take the audience on a journey through the stages of creating an illustrated book from story to published volume. Long Beach - The Young Israel of Long Beach will hold its annual Scholarship Concert on Motzaei Shabbat, Feb. 21 at 8:30 p.m. in the YILB Social Hall, 120 Long Beach Boulevard. The concert will feature musicians Baruch Levine, Acheinu and Shira. The proceeds enable many local children to attend Yeshiva and/or overnight summer camp. Three years ago, following the untimely p'tirah of Bob Chiger z"l, a young member of the shul, it was decided to perpetuate his memory by re-naming the scholarship fund after him. Cedarhurst - Every Tuesday, the JCC of the Greater Five Towns offers a social day program called "Remember When" from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Sons of Israel in Woodmere. This program is especially designed for memory enhancement and socialization. The cost includes a full range of therapeutic activities, morning beverage, dessert, and a kosher lunch. Lynbrook - Congregation Beth David has a series of ongoing events.
