Martinis & Matzo Balls

The Lincoln Square Synagogue, at 200 Amsterdam Ave. in Manhattan, will hold “Martinis and Matzo Balls,” an event run by the National Jewish Outreach Program Young Leadership Division. Student art show

The Hebrew Academy of Long Beach, located at 530 West Broadway in Long Beach, will be holding an exhibition for student art from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The students ranged in age from 11 to 14 years old and the exhibit will feature some work from the faculty as well. Cantorial Concert

Beth Sholom, located at Washington Avenue and Broadway in Lawrence, will be holding a cantorial concert featuring Yitzhak Meir Helfgot, chief cantor of the Park East Synagogue, Zev Muller, chazzan of the West Side Institutional Synagogue, Moshe Muller, chief cantor of the Heichal Meir Synagogue, and Joel Kaplan, cantor of Beth Sholom. Ticket prices are $50, $100, $180, and $250. A limited amount of tickets will be available for $36. Screenwriting Course

The Friedberg JCC, located at 15 Neil Court in Oceanside, will be holding a screenwriting course every Thursday beginning June 8 from 7-8:30 p.m. The six-week class will be an overview on the basic logistics, techniques and theories to writing compelling story for the big screen and will be taught by award-winning independent filmmaker, Drew Moss. Moss was the writer and director of “Mismatch,” which won awards at the Huntington Cinema Arts Centre International Film Festival and the New York Film Expo. He is a long-time commercial and TV editor at Technicolor in New York City and an assistant executive in charge of development for the Shooting Gallery, which produced “Laws of Gravity” and “Slingblade.” His other credits include work on “Law and Order”, HBO’s “In The Gloaming” (directed by Christopher Reeve), a stint with Hollywood heavyweights Merchant Ivory Productions, as well as commercial editing work for clients including Spike Lee (Snapple), David Letterman’s WorldWide Pants (Mercedes Benz) and Ridley Scott’s “GI Jane”, starring Demi Moore.
