Jewish organizations on Long Island and throughout the New York region were mobilizing this week to push back against the Iranian nuclear agreement that was announced on Tuesday.

A forum is scheduled for Sunday evening (July 19) at Temple Hillel in Valley Stream. Featured speakers include Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-Suffolk), Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Boro Park) and ZOA President Morton Klein. More than 20 shuls in the Five Towns area are supporting this event, set for 7:30 to 9 pm at 1000 Rosedale Road, organizers said.

A massive “Stop Iran Now” rally in Times Square, featuring 18 high-profile speakers, is being promoted for next Wednesday (July 22) from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

Organizers of the Times Square event, heralded as a “rally for peace through strength for America and for humanity,” report that over 50 organizations were participating.

Among the Times Square speakers who were confirmed at presstime are these:

•Former CIA Director James Woolsey

•James A. “Ace” Lyons, former commander-in-chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet and senior U.S. military representrative to the U.N.

•Professor Alan Dershowitz

•Hudson Institute Pres. Herbert London

•Former Reps. Allen West and Pete Hoekstra, and ormer DA Robert Mogenthau

•Author Caroline Glick

•Publisher Mortimer Zuckerman

“We say, ‘Never Again’ will Jews be silent,” Larry Domnitch and Dr. Paul Brody wrote on behalf of the rally’s Jewish Rapid Response organizing committee. “We speak of the inaction by major U.S. Jewish organizations in the late 1930s as the threat of Nazi Germany grew, and during the horrors of the Holocaust. Will we be silent as well? Will the same sin be repeated?”

“The lifting of sanctions will allow the greatest sponsor of global terror to intensify its heinous attacks,” they continued. “Nations who claimed to negotiate on behalf of the world community have lost their way. A rogue nation’s quest for the world’s most dangerous weapons has been validated.

“Although the Iran deal has been forged, it is not yet final. Congress has 60 days to approve or reject the deal. It is incumbent on each and every one of us to make that happen. Your attendance at the rally will send a powerful message to Congress.”
