Sunday’s Israel concert

Thousands of celebrants are expected at the 21st Annual Israel Day Concert, Carl Freyer, z”l, Tribute and Dr. Manfred Lehmann Memorial event at Central Park’s Summer Stage on Sunday June 1. This also marks the 47th anniversary of the Six-Day War and Reunification of Jerusalem.

The free concert will be held from 2:30 to 7:30 pm, rain or shine, after the Celebrate Israel Parade.

Dr. Joseph and Karen Frager, long-time organizers, and Dr. Paul and Drora Brody, chairpersons for the past nine years, announced the concert’s themes of Israel and Jerusalem: United forever —Never to be divided again, No further concessions of any part of the Land of Israel (Yisrael HaShleima), Stopping Iran now, and Countering the Boycott, Divest and Sanction (BDS) movement.

The concert is sponsored by the Israel Concert-In-The-Park Committee, in association with Young Israel Chovevei Zion and the National Council of Young Israel.

Guest speakers will be Texas Senator Ted Cruz; MK Danny Danon, Deputy Defense Minister of Israel; and Ambassador John Bolton, an expert on the situation in Iran and a staunch supporter of Israel. Mort Klein, president of the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA), will also speak. Special appearances will be made by leading political and religious leaders and by Jewish activists.

Performers include Israeli Sephardic superstar Gad Elbaz, and two returning stars, singer and showman LIPA, and EDON, who proudly wore his kippa as he achieved semi-finalist status on “America’s Got Talent,” and Chasidic phenom Benny Friedman. Elron Zabatani, of Jerusalem’s Old City, will be accompanied by Shlomi Aharoni, from Israel, who is an alumnus of the Rabbinical IDF Orchestra & Choir. Shloime Dachs Orchestra & Singers will provide musical accompaniment. Zvika Bornstein will be the musical director and Nachum Segal will emcee.

Kosher food and drinks will be available for sale, supplied by Mendy’s. Early arrival is strongly advised, as there will be added security checks for entrance to the SummerStage. For security reasons, no large backpacks or bags will be allowed into the Concert. Photo ID is required for entry. Entry to the concert will be at Fifth Avenue and 72nd Street.
