Shalhevet honors Dalia

Posted

Dalia Lemkus was a 26 year old Israeli girl who was murdered by terrorists earlier this year. She was at a hitchhiking station right outside of Alon Shavut when she was fatally and brutally attacked.

In honor of Dalia, the students at Midreshet Shalhevet learned in her memory. At the school-wide commemoration last December, students spoke, and eleventh grader Tamar Beer recreated a painting that Dalia had created for her future home. The painting was presented to the Lemkus family on erev Pesach.

Brenda Lemkus, Dalia’s mother, was overwhelmed with emotion upon receiving the painting and hearing that a girls’ school in Woodmere took such interest in their daughter Dalia and memorialized her in a positive and beautiful way.

Nachum Lemkus, Dalia’s father, was not at the meeting, but is currently in New York. He will be visiting Shalhevet this Thursday, May 14,, to speak to the students and to bring the relationship full circle. This will be a moving and sentimental event, one that will forever be remembered.
