South Nassau Communities Hospital has named Adhi Sharma, MD, FACMT, FACEP, as senior vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer (CMO). Dr. Sharma had been serving as South Nassau’s interim CMO.

“In addition to being an outstanding emergency medicine physician, Dr. Sharma has demonstrated a broad understanding of professional practice administration and patient management,” said SNCH President and CEO Richard J. Murphy. “Working with physician leaders and senior administrative staff, Dr. Sharma has provided a valuable perspective on critical programs and initiatives. He is focused on improving the patient experience and the quality of healthcare services we provide.

“On a personal level, Dr. Sharma is someone who enjoys the respect of his peers and has a strong relationship with our patients and the communities we serve. He is a natural leader.”

As senior vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer, Dr. Sharma will be responsible for facilitating medical staff interactions with hospital administration and the governing board and for assuring the effective and efficient delivery of quality medical care consistent with the mission of South Nassau. He will also oversee strategic planning and execution, as well as the implementation of care management programs, and monitor the effectiveness of management practices and productivity indicators.

“I look forward to this opportunity,” said Dr. Sharma. “South Nassau’s staff has been nationally recognized for providing quality care and is on the leading edge of patient focused medicine. Our profession is changing rapidly, with increased emphasis on keeping patients well, and out of the hospital. Part of my goal will be to continue to improve the quality of health care we provide, each and every day.”
