Radical Islam escalated its simmering war in Europe on Wednesday. Masked gunmen screaming “Allahu akbar” stormed the offices of the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo, killing at least 12.
Afterwards, French soldiers tightened security at such high-visibility targets as the Eiffel Tower as well as houses of worship, stores, media offices and transportation.
In several European cities, thousands reacted with a mixture of sadness and outrage, pouring into the streets proclaiming “Je Suis Charlie” (”I am Charlie”), including in Berlin in front of the Brandenburg Gate.
