Gala dinner helps take Shulamith to next level

Posted

On the eve of its receiving approval to lease the No. 5 School building in Cedarhurst, Shulamith partied at The Sands Atlantic Beach. The school filed this report:

Parents, supporters and faculty turned out en masse for the Shulamith School for Girls “Road to Excellence” dinner.

Dinner Chairman Jeff Eisenberg spoke about the school’s warmth, superior education in both Torah and general studies, pro-Israel hashkafa, and ever-increasing enrollment. Shulamith won’t rest on its laurels, however, and he coined the dinner’s catchphrase, “Let’s Take Shulamith to the Next Level.”

In a series of video interviews and photo montages, dinner attendees were informed about future improvements scheduled for Shulamith, some of which have already begun, including increased security, implementation of cutting edge technology, and improvements in providing remediation or enrichment to students.

A highlight of the dinner was a choir presentation by third graders which gave parents a taste of some of the ways in which Shulamith brings out the best in its students, in extra-curricular programming as well as academics.

Dr. Jonathan and Sari Altmark were the Guests of Honor at the event. The couple are accomplished professionals and pillars of their West Hempstead Community. Dr. Altmark serves as Chairman of Adult Education for the Young Israel of West Hempstead, is a member of both the Chevra Kadisha and Hatzalah, and delivers Tomchei Shabbos packages weekly. Mrs. Altmark has served as the Sisterhood President of the Young Israel, and is currently a board member of its Chesed Committee.

As Shulamith parents, the Altmarks have been invaluable to the school. Mrs. Altmark has been a class mother for over eight years and has volunteered for both the Shulamith Women’s Organization and the Shulamith Parent Council. The Altmarks are the proud parents of Shulamith students Batya (12), Mimi (10), Yali (8), and their brother, Moshe (5).

Mrs. Shira Bokow was named Educator of the Year. She has been a beloved Pre-1A teacher at Shulamith School for Girls since its second year on Long Island. Shulamith is fortunate to have a stellar staff that includes Morah Bokow, who nourishes her students with a unique flavor of her own, igniting a love of learning that continues throughout their years at Shulamith.

The Bokows live in Cedarhurst, where Mrs. Bokow served as Sisterhood President of Congregation Beis Medrash of Cedarhurst. They are the proud parents of Nisson (17), and daughters Zeldie (15), Chaya Malka (12), Raizy (8), and Deenie (6), all of whom attend or attended Shulamith.

From the reception to the dessert buffet, the energy and excitement in the room was palpable as everyone felt that they were part of the Shulamith journey on The Road to Excellence.
