2002 — An anti-bullying program at HALB is teaching bystanders to fight back.

2003 — It’s “lights, action, camera” at Brach’s, as an independent filmmakers used the Lawrence supermarket as the site of a 10-inute short comedy, “Supermarket Girl: The Final Interview.”

2005  — HAFTR students collected toys as Chanukah gifts for children at Chai Lifeline, Ohel and in Gush Katif.

2006 — Cedarhurst native Simcha Gluck and his wife Rachel anticipate that they will be Nefesh B’Nefesh’s 10,000thx oleh.

2007 — Into the never-ending discussion of “Observant Jewish dating in NYC,” a Jewish Star story asks, “Is the Upper West Side really conducive to meeting people?”

2009 — Students from Rambam Mesivta picked the German consulate after Germany refused to accept the return from Queens of Nazi war criminal Jakiw Palij, blocking efforts to deport him from America.

2010 — HAFTR eleventh graders performed a Chessed Shel Emet at Bayside Cemetery in Ozone Park, removing years of growth that had been covering graves. Rabbi Elchonon Zohn, head of the National Association of Chevra Kadisha and head of the Chevra Kadisha of the Vaad Harabonim of Queens, spoke with the boys about the importance of this mitzvah.

2011 — The Great Neck Synagogue celebrated its 60th anniversary at its annual dinner.

2012 — Following the shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Conn., that left 20 children and six adults dead, local schools were reconsidering their security measures.

2013 — Jerusalem was covered in white, after an unusually heavy snowfall blanketed Israel. Jerusalemites opened their homes for Shabbat to thousands stuck on the icy roads.
