Sisters Karen Sheff and Bonnie Sheff-Meiselman have team-ed up with the Marion & Aaron Gural JCC of the Five Towns to hold a singles event motzei Shabbos, Feb. 6.

The Sheff sisters hosted mixers for Jewish singles in their home in years past, and after they outgrew that venue, their events moved to the JCC on Grove Avenue. An event held 13 years ago was attended by over 200 local singles in the Five Towns.

“Even after all these years, people still come up to us and recall the singles parties we had in the past,” Karen Sheff said. “While we are not professional matchmakers, we do our best to give singles a forum to meet in a fun and non-pressured atmosphere.”

A few months ago, Bonnie Sheff-Meiselman had a strong desire to revisit the idea of running another event for singles. Because they had collaborated with the JCC in the past, Bonnie reached out and found that the JCC was excited about the prospect of partnering with another singles event for members of the community.

The event, at Temple Israel, 140 Central Ave. in Lawrence, will be open to Modern Orthodox singles in their 30s and 40s who live in the Five Towns and throughout the metropolitan area.

Planned entertainment includes musician Mo Shapiro; Jen the Caricaturist, and mentalist, and magician Gary the Great. In addition to the entertainment, the Sheff sisters say attendees will have plenty of time to meet and mingle.

When not organizing singles events, Bonnie Sheff-Meiselman is a paralegal for a Manhattan law firm and Karen Sheff is the director of college huidance at a Long Island day school.

In conjunction with the JCC’s executive director Joel Block and Cultural Arts and Education Director Rachayle Deutsch, this foursome has  been planning the event for months.

“The Marion and Aaron Gural JCC is very excited to be expanding the reach of our services as we continue to grow in our Five Towns Community,” said Block.

Pre-registration for the singles event is required; admission is $20.
