Long Beach Assemblyman Todd Kaminsky was seleted by Nassau County Democrats on Tuesday night as the party’s choice to succeed convicted state Senator Dean Skelos.

Gov. Cuomo is expected to call a special election to fill the vacant seat, possibly in April. Nassau Republicans said they were still reviewing their candidates.

In a statement after the Democratic vote, Kaminsky said:

“Albany urgently needs new, honest leadership and I am encouraged by the support of my party for this post,” he said. “Over the next few weeks, I will continue to meet with my family, community leaders and neighbors to determine how I can best fight for Long Island and the south shore.”
