A poem for Yom Kippur

Posted

Pause for reflection
Examination of deeds
Thoughts of contrition
Amend character of ways

Pre-fast meal
Consumed by requisite time
Final ounces of water
Before fast begins

Turmoil at events
Aspirations not always requited
Automatic behavior commonplace
Obligations not always filled

Kol Nidre prayer
Potentially redeeming
Sincerity of sentiment
Contrition with ocmpehended meaning

Final moments at Neilah
Cantor still in a good voice
Eyes moistened with tears
Focusing on written text

Long blast of shofar
Bringing minds to attention
Blessing of a new moon
Table set for post-fast celebration

Cycle of life repetitions
New players emerging on the scene
Emphatic hands supportive
Honey for a sweet new year
