Here's where to burn your chametz in 5 Towns

Posted

Once again, the Woodmere Volunteer Fire Department will faciliate the last-minute disposal of chametz on erev Pesach, Monday, April 10, from 6:30 to 11:45 am. The department, at Central Avenue and Irving Place, will burn the community’s chometz safely, up until 11:45 am (zman). The time to stop eating chometz is 10:44 am.

Chometz will also be burned at the Lawrence LIRR Station, between 7 and 11 am.

Five Towns residents who are going away for the chag can drop off chometz to be burned at the Woodmere firehouse. (Leave it in cans by the red garage door in the parking lot on Sunday.)

No silver foil and plastic bags (paper bags only) should be left to burn. (Plastic is toxic when it burns!)

Additionally, garbage trucks will be stationed at the Lawrence and Cedarhurst LIRR stations, and outside the Young Israel Woodmere and Temple Hillel, up until the proscribed time on Monday.

Before the burn, leftover chometz can be donated to the Rina Shkolnik Food Pantry of the JCC, at 1012 Central Ave. in Woodmere.

The Woodmere Volunteer Fire Department wishes everyone A Zissen Pesach, a Chag Kosher V’Sameach. The free service of the Woodmere Volunteer Fire Department is provided in partnership with the Rockaway-Nassau Safety Patrol and Chaverim of the Five Towns.
