An esteemed and influential force in Jewish education will be uniting with a new and different idea of learning this coming school year. The goal of modernizing Jewish education to increase learning and decrease costs galvanized a group of Five Towns parents to form Tiferet Academy. It was to start with grades K and 1 under a plan known as blended learning. Beginning in the fall of 2013, the Hebrew Academy of Long Beach (HALB) will be absorbing Tiferet Academy into its student body, incorporating its principles of blended learning into the curriculum of HALB’s 1700-student campuses. more
Eight years ago, HAFTR lost an ambitious student, star athlete, and extraordinary friend, Jacob Haden Greenberg. Anyone who knew Jacob will tell you that he lived life to the fullest and strived for excellence in everything he did. more
A new, need-based scholarship has been created, allocated specifically to Hebrew Academy of Nassau County (HANC) graduates who are applying to Yeshiva University, in the amount of $80,500. The scholarship fortifies the special relationship between HANC and Yeshiva, of vital importance to the gift donors, Beryl and Doreen Eckstein. more
Rabbi Herschel Schacter, a Jewish leader whose life intersected and joined major events and institutions in modern Jewish history, passed away from natural causes before Passover at the age of 95. He had been living at a hospice residence in Riverdale. His funeral was held on March 21st at the Riverdale Jewish Center. more
From March 7-11, 20 yeshiva high school basketball teams from across the U.S. and Canada met at the Max Stern Athletic Center on Yeshiva University’s Wilf Campus in Washington Heights to battle it out for the top spot in the University’s 22nd Annual Red Sarachek Invitational Basketball Tournament. When the buzzer sounded, the Shalhevet High School Firehawks of Los Angeles, CA were crowned the tournament’s Tier I champions. more
The Five Towns Community Chest is once again planning its annual Youth Board basketball tournament. Lawrence High School has proudly hosted this great event for the past 15 years. Unfortunately the Lawrence gym is not available due to Hurricane Sandy and is currently being renovated. This year HAFTR has come to the rescue and extended their hospitality by offering to host Chest’s tournament at their brand new, state of the art sports complex. more
Supporters of Kulanu filled the ballroom at the Sands of Atlantic Beach on Saturday night, February 16 for their annual dinner. The evening’s Guests of Honor were Brenda and Stanley Goldstein and Friendship award recipients Raquel Bernstein and Adam Steiglitz. more
HAFTR students have been very busy the last several weeks with many exciting events. A major event was the 23rd Annual Yeshiva University National Model United Nations (YUNMUN), in which HAFTR students represented the countries of Mongolia and Belgium. more
J.J. Goldstein is running again. The enthusiastic 17-year old student at KULANU at HAFTR has rallied his family and other supporters to help raise, to date, $7828 for his second run with Team Yachad this Sunday in the ING Miami half marathon. more
