Gala celebrates the Rebbe and Chabad on Long Island

Posted

Long Island’s 38 Chabad centers gathered at the Cradle of Aviaton Museum in Garden City to celebrate their accomplishments and the 120th anniversary of the birth of Lubavitcher Rebbe, Menachem Mendel Schneerson.

Rabbi Anchelle Perl, who chaired the evening in the absence of Rabbi Zalman Wolowik (mourning the loss of his mother), cheered the partnership of shluchim and lay leaders for “helping to keep Jewish life vibrant here on Long Island.” Rabbi Pearl, of Mineola Chabad, was one of the Rebbe’s early emissaries on the Island.

Yakira Colish, 17, of Long Beach, told a story familiar to many in the audience. “I began drifting away from my Jewish values and blending in with my secular friends,” she said. Then she discovered Chabad.
