Weighing words and not pounds

In a bite-sized tome, local author Gloria Davidson joins with Hope Stanger to map a to weight loss, where the power of positive speaking plays a big role.

This book, “Weigh Your Words and Throw Away Your Scale! The Jewish Woman’s Guide to Losing Weight and Feeling Great,” is a 26-day tool that uses the letters of the alphabet to be “as easy as ABC,” because that’s what the authors feel the process of weight loss should be.

For example, Day 15 corresponds to the letter O, which is for opportunity. The book suggests you say out loud a few times during the day, “I create opportunities to eat healthy and lose weight.” The O page reminds the reader that opportunities come in abundance, and suggests pauses to think about your best choices during the day. Then ask about new opportunities that can be created to lead to success. The O page also has a organizing action, and an affirmation about being open to healthier choices.

Weigh Your Words also has a section with recipes and tips for brain-boosting foods, smoothies, greens and snacks.

“This book is full of sincerity, practical advice, and better living for all Jewish women,” said Rabbi Zechariah Wallerstein of Ohr Naava. “Since it is targeted to help with the nutritional guidelines a person might be struggling with, which are not only limited to overeating or an eating disorder, I recommend that it be read carefully one section at a time with ample review for the best results.”

This book, which the authors say can transform cravings into positive beliefs for weight-loss success, is small enough to tuck inside a bag for support throughout the day, to cheer you on and keep you focused.

It is available at local Judaica stores, including Judaica Plus in Cedarhurst, and on Amazon.com.
