SKA students join NORPAC mission

Posted

Twenty five Stella K. Abraham High School for Girls students, accompanied by faculty member Rikki Fishbein, parents and grandparents, joined over 1,000 thousand citizen activists on May 17, at NORPAC’s Annual Mission to Washington. They went to advocate among members of Congress for a stronger U.S.-Israel relationship.

The SKA students initially attended a briefing session at the Warner Theatre with presentations by congressional leaders. They then split into groups to meet with members of Congress and their staff to discuss pressing issues of U.S.-Israel concern. Among the representatives the girls met with were Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Rep. Kathleen Rice (D-NY) who represents the Five Towns, Rep. Gene Green (R-TX), Rep. John Larson (D-CT.) Sen. Michel B. Enzi (R-WY) and Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-OH), among others.

Sophomore Shira Cohen shared her enthusiasm over the mission.

“It was so reassuring to see how much support for Israel we found in Washington,” she said. “Every legislator we spoke to, Jewish or non-Jewish, expressed their belief that Israel is the Jewish homeland and that the Kotel is part of Jerusalem.”

SKA students on the mission noted how encouraged they were by their Israel advocacy.
