Shulamith girls cut their hair in cancer fight

Posted

Students from the Shulamith School for Girls in Cedarhurst (pictured) had their hair cut at Quorum, a salon on Central Avenue, on Monday, donating their locks to make wigs for children who have lost their hair to cancer treatments.

The event was on behalf of Zichron Menachem, an organization in Israel that provides support for children with cancer and their families. The girls were inspired by a video produced by Zichron Menachem which showed girls who had grown their hair enough to provide a 12 inch braid to be used for wigs.

Mothers of the recipients spoke about how incredible it was for their daughters to receive a wig that made them feel good about their appearance even as they were being treated for the dreaded disease. The donors were also made to feel beautiful by the restyling of their now shorter hair, and the incredible positive impact their donation made on the children under treatment.

The hair of HAFTR girls will be cut on Thursday, at Shani Hair Salon in Cedarhurst.
