Shabbos talk: Coping with tumultuous teens

Posted

It’s an issue for Shabbos and every other day, and since it involves shalom bayit, why not confront it Shabbos Nachamu!

Mothers from the Five Towns and Far Rockaway are invited to do just that, by attending a panel discussion on “Parenting Teenagers in Tumultuous Times: Challenges and Solutions,” at Congregation Shaaray Tefila, 25 Central Ave. in Lawrence, at 5:30 pm.

The event, open to women of all ages from the Five Towns and Far Rockaway, will pose such questions as how can parents maintain open lines of communication with their teens, graciously say no and maintain their personal values when parents of their teen’s friends or classmates are more permissive, and how can we raise children who see beyond themselves and are empathetic and interested in contributing to society.

Panelists will include Dr. Hylton Lightman, pediatrician and community activist; Mrs. Rachel Pill, LCSW, clinician in private practice; and Rabbi Yehuda Orlansky, 12th grade rebbe and Israel adviser at Mesivta Ateres Yaakov. The moderator will be Mrs. Sara Malka Krasnow, principal at Yeshiva Darchei Torah.

“Raising adolescents is a major challenge we all face and sharing insights and tips from experts in mental health, family medicine and education will provide needed support and encouragement,” said Shaaray Rabbi Uri Orlian.
