North Woodmere - Temple Hillel will host a community wide event screening “The Case for Israel; Democracy’s Outpost,” a feature length documentary film with Alan Dershowitz on Wednesday, May 27 at 7:00 p.m. The event is being sponsored by Temple Hillel and StandWithUS and is free and open to the public. Cedarhurst - The National Council of Jewish Women Peninsula Section will be holding a 5K Fitness Walk through Cedarhurst and Lawrence on Sunday, May 31. The purpose of the walk is to inspire members of the Five Towns community and surrounding areas to get into better shape this spring. To attain this goal, a fitness and motivational plan will be provided through the NCJW web site, ncjwfitnesswalk. com, to help community members get started and build their endurance over an eight-week period. There will also be weekly training walks beginning on April 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hewlett High School track. The sessions will be open to all registered participants, to prepare for the 5K (3 mile) walk. Walkers of all levels and abilities are encouraged to participate. Oceanside - The Friedberg JCC is hosting a free financial workshop for parents of children with special needs on Thursday, June 4 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the JCC, 15 Neil Court. The event, cosponsored by the JCC and FEGS Health and Human Services System will provide long-term financial planning information for families on topics such as Special Need Trusts, Guardianship, Estate Planning, Benefits and Entitlements, Health Plans, Budgeting and Financial Planning. Wheatley Heights - The Friedberg JCC will hold a “Walk to Help the Sun Rise for Children with Cancer,” on Sunday June 7.  Proceeds from the event will go to Sunrise Day Camp, the only day camp in the nation for children with cancer and their siblings. The walkathon, presented by The Laura Rosenberg Foundation, will be held at the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds on Colonial Springs Rd. in Wheatley Heights. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The walk will be a fun, non-competitive morning for the entire family, with 3 different courses to choose from. Freeport - Congregation Tifereth Zvi is pleased to announce its first Annual Father Son/Daughter Fishing Trip (yes, that means you can take your daughter - limited to age 12 and under) planned for Sunday June 21. The day begins with Sunday morning shiur at 5:45 a.m., Shacharis at 6:30 a.m, and the boat leaves the dock in Freeport at 8:00 a.m. We will have the boat until Noon, so all the fathers can be back to help the mothers for the rest of the day. The cost is $35 per person (same for adult and child) and includes rod and bait. Drinks will be provided but feel free to bring your own snacks.
