Cedarhurst - Kehillas Bais Yehudah Tzvi (The Red Shul) will resume a weekly late night seder each Thursday night in the shul at 395 Oakland Avenue, running until Pesach. The seder will begin at 10:30 p.m. and conclude at 11:30 p.m., followed immediately by Maariv. Learning is b’chavrusa or solo, and chulent is served. Cedarhurst - The Young Israel of Lawrence-Cedarhurst will host Rabbi YY Rubinstein as a Scholar-in-Residence, Parshat VaYishlach, Dec. 12-13. Rabbi Rubinstein, a noted lecturer, author, BBC broadcaster and Campus Rabbi at North West of England, will speak on Friday night at 8 p.m. on “Time Travel… How to Do It and How It Will Change Your Life.” Shabbat morning he will speak following davening on “Yaakov & Eisav: Proud of Being Jewish… Some Thoughts by Non Jews to Remind Us if We Sometimes Forget.” His last address will be shabbat afternoon, following 3:50 pm Mincha on “My Plane Crash and Other Interesting Flights I’ve Taken.” Men and women are invited. Woodmere - The Young Israel of Woodmere will host Rabbi Dr. Aharon Lichtenstein as a scholar in residence for Shabbat Parshat Vayishlach, Dec. 12-13. Rav Lichtenstein will deliver a Friday night talk, a shabbat morning drasha and a shiur between mincha and maariv at the shul, 859 Peninsula Boulevard. West Hempstead - Congregation Anshei Sholom will host Rabbi Moshe Meir Wess, Rav of Agudath Yisroel of Staten Island, on Shabbat Parshat Vayishlach, Dec. 12-13. Rabbi Weiss will speak Friday night during davening before Barchu, and at 8:00 p.m., followed by an oneg. On Shabbat, Dec. 13, he will speak at 10:30 a.m. before mussaf, and will give a shiur on Daf Yomi Kiddushin 66 at 3:00 p.m. He will also speak at 4:20 p.m. during seudah shlishit. On Motza’ei Shabbat, he will lecture on “Sweetening our Marriage” at 8 p.m. Rabbi Weiss’s books, tapes and CD will be available for purchase. Manhattan - The Park East Synagogue is holding a pre-Chanukah concert on Motza’ei Shabbat Dec. 13 at 8 p.m., to benefit the scholarship fund of the Arthur Schneier Park East Day School. The concert will feature Cantors Yitzchak Meir Helfgot, Moshe Haschel, Maestro Matthew Lazar and pianist Daniel Gildar. Tickets cost between $50 and $100. Separate seating is available. Merrick - Chabad invites the community to experience Chanukah on Dec. 21. Chanukah Wonderland, a project of the Chabad Center for Jewish Life, will be open from 1:30 – 4:00 p.m. At the “Clubhouse at the Merrick Park Golf Course,” children and adults can experience Chanukah through hands-on activities (i.e. donut making) and creative arts & crafts at $6 per person or $18 per family. From 1:45 - 4:15 pm, the Spectacular Chanukah Ride will be available for all those who sign up, leaving the Clubhouse at the Merrick Park Golf Course every 15 minutes.
