Tension in Israel

Mournful week

Death, riots in Israel; worries in D.C.

During the nine troubling days leading up to Tisha B’Av, we mourn our latest victims in the Holy Land as well as our Temple.

Unrest, purportedly related to the installation of metal detectors near the Temple Mount after the assassination of two Israeli officers, continued on Tuesday despite removal of the devices. Muslims persisted in refusing to enter the al-Aksa Mosque, instead praying outside. Palestinian officials said they were not satisfied with Israel’s capitulation.

Meanwhile, concern was expressed even by Jewish allies of President Trump over his and administration officials’ response to the slayings as well as other troubling actions — including terms of a Syrian ceasefire negotiated with Russia that Israeli leaders believe may threaten the Jewish state.
