MDSers return to smartlabs at Manhattan school

Posted

On the first day of school, students at Manhattan Day School on the Upper West Side eagerly made their way through the crowd to get a glimpse of their new, state-of-the-art SmartLab. The fully facility supports hands-on learning with an emphasis on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).

The SmartLab at MDS will offer the students first-hand experience with robotics, software engineering, alternative energy, and computer graphics, all of which will be applied to such diverse areas of study as science, math and Judaics.

SmartLab classes grades 4 through 8 will be taught by Director of Educational Technology Elisha Hus. Students will create, question, collaborate, take risks and become problem solvers, learning through designing and visualizing rather than just conceptualizing and memorizing.

Creation of the SmartLab signifies a strong commitment by the MDS administration to nurture the next generation of innovators.
