HANC elementary celebrates Dr. Seuss

Posted

HANC’s Samuel and Elizabeth Bass Golding Elementary School in West Hempstead celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Read Across America Day on March 2nd. This day was created in honor of Dr. Seuss’ timeless contribution to literature.

The children and staff celebrated by wearing red and white clothing and completing  DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) four times during the day. They stopped what they were doing and read a book whenever they heard a whimsical sound that was broadcast over the intercom system.  The children loved the fact that this was a school-wide experience and the teachers were joining in the activity as well.

In order to create a Dr. Seuss atmosphere, the teachers and students decorated the classroom doors with Dr. Seuss themed art work based on one of their favorite Dr. Seuss books.

In keeping with the Dr. Seuss theme, Friday March 3, was pajama day at HANC.  The students came to school wearing their pajamas over their clothes.

The children read two of his books that relate to sleeping, Sleep Book and I Am Not Getting Up Today.  It makes you wonder when Dr. Seuss ever had time to sleep and his dreams must have been fabulous.

HANC students love Dr. Seuss!
