HANC connects with Shabbos Project

Posted

HANC High School was pulsating with joy and exhilaration as the entire school celebrated the year’s first chagiga in honor of the worldwide Shabbos Project.

HANC High School embraced the Project and its spirit permeated the air throughout the week, culminating with Erev Shabbat’s high-energy, awesome chagiga which included music by Mendy J and Yitzy Heilbrun, dancing, a chulent cook-off, challah bake (sponsored by Rachel and David Fryman for a refuah shleima for Chana bat Rachel Leah), and a special senior kumsitz.

A highlight of the celebration was a personal and meaningful video message to the HANC community from the chief rabbi of South Africa, Rabbi Goldstein, who originated the Shabbos Project three years ago. Rabbi Goldstein’s message was recorded live by Assistant Principal Ms. Tziporah Zucker while on a trip to South Africa last summer.

The chagigah also served as the kickoff for the theme of the year, “Rock Simcha.” An amusing video produced in HANC was shown. Students, faculty and passersby were asked to clue us in as to what makes them happy.

In addition to the in-school festivities, over 20 HANC High School students opened their homes to others seeking a more meaningful Shabbos atmosphere. At one of the Shabbos meals, HANC senior Gideon Pollack made a siyum in honor of the Shabbos Project.

HANC lower school Celebrates Shabbos

Last week, students at HANC’s Samuel & Elizabeth Bass Golding Elementary School, in West Hempstead, considered projects relating to Shabbos, in honor of the Shabbos Project. The week’s Shabbos programs were dedicated in memory of Mrs. Gila Reinstein z”l, who shared her love of  Shabbos and was a life-long supporter and champion of children and of HANC.

The week began with a school-wide rockin’ Oneg Shabbat concert with Rabbi Shapiro!  The lunchroom came alive as students sang Shabbos songs and danced.
