Posted

Students at HANC’s Samuel & Elizabeth Bass Golding Elementary School, in West Hempstead, commemorated Yom Hazikaron.

Students in Kindergarten through third Grade were inspired by their guest speaker, former HANC student Tyler Peller, who spoke about his experience in the Israeli Army’s Tank Brigade. Tyler also shared a story about how he kept Shabbat while out in the field.

Fourth through sixth graders joined an assembly conducted by Morah Dafna Berman. where they heard the story of Major Roi Klein, who threw himself on a grenade to save the the members of his IDF platoon. Major Klein’s last words were, “Shema Yisrael.” This story helped the students better understand the enormity of the sacrifices Israelis make every day.

Afterwards, a memorial ceremony was held in which the students whose fathers, grandfathers, grandmothers and brothers served in the Israeli Army were invited to light a candle. After the candle light ceremony Rabbi Sadigh recited the Kel Malai prayer and the assembly concluded with the singing of Haktikva.
