Four HAFTR High School students were awarded medals for their research at the Long Island Math Fair held at Hofstra University on March 4.  The students, Hillel Friedman, Gabrielle Lovett, Wade Miller, and Rebecca Slochowsky, will compete for gold medals at the Final Round of the Long Island Math Fair, which will be held on April 29.
Outstanding recognition went to Hillel Friedman for his work on the enigmatic nature of prime numbers.  Gabrielle Lovett was awarded for her research on Euclidean and Hyperbolic geometry. Rebecca Slochowsky attained outstanding recognition for her categorization of infinite sets, and Wade Miller conducted research on Gaussian integers.
All four students worked with their mentor, Mr. Neil Bernstein, chairman of the mathematics department at the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway High School.
