Posted

Two years ago, members of the Young Israel of Long Beach morning minyanim were surprised by the sudden appearance of over 30 youngsters, headed by their rebbe, Rabbi Yaron Halbertal, who biked to the YILB from their school, Yeshiva Darchei Torah in Far Rockaway. At that time the youngsters davened Shacharis and were treated to a spontaneous hurriedly prepared breakfast.

Last past Thursday morning history repeated itself, only this time, Rabbi Halbertal gave the YILB a “head’s up” and informed them of the impending bike expedition to Long Beach.

The group had already davened at Darchei Torah and came to the YILB to hear the reading of the Torah. Being forewarned, the shul prepared an elaborate breakfast of cereal, bagels and Danish.

During the seuda, Rabbi Chaim Wakslak, Morah D’oasra, shared a D’var Torah on the subject of sefirah. He explaine the concept of personalizing the counting of sefirah based on a Moshal of the Dubner Maggid on the words “usfartem lachem.”

Following bentching, the boys helped clean up and retrieved their bikes and for the ride back to Far Rockaway.
