The Hebrew Academy of Nassau County Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Steve Podias as head boys’ varsity basketball coach.

Podias joins the Hurricanes after 20 years as the head men’s basketball coach at Brooklyn College where he amassed over 200 victories, won two CUNYAC championships, and earned bids to the NCAA and ECAC tournaments.

Podias is no stranger to the Yeshiva League, having won two league championships and the first ever Saracheck tournament championship as the head coach at MTA in the early ’90s. While at MTA,

Podias simultaneously served as the assistant men’s basketball coach at Yeshiva University.

Podias, a Long Islander, is also a teacher for the New York City Board of Education and coaches in the New York Knicks summer basketball camp.

“Coach Podias’ success as a basketball coach speaks for itself and we are very excited to have him join our program,” said HANC Director of Athletics Adam Brick.

“We look forward to Coach Podias leading our team to great heights and continuing the great tradition of Hurricanes basketball at HANC High School.”
