A Moliere adaptation, at LIU, for ladies only

Posted

“The Imaginary Invalid,” an adaptation of the “Hypochondriac” by Moliere, will be performed by students of the Jewish Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 6 and 7, 8 pm, in the Kumble Thetatre of Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus, Flatbush Avenue Extension at DeKalb Avenue.

In this frolicking comedy, Monsieur Argan is obsessed with being sick. Through his friends’ hijinks, jokes and dance interludes, hilarity ensues as he discovers the extent of his own medical prowess in the silliest of all possible ways.

The Jewish Center for Performing Arts was founded and is directed by Rivka Nahari, whose upbringing in a non-observant home allowed her to study and excel in ballet and harp playing. Upon becoming involved with Chabad in her teen years, Nahari found ways to continue practicing both dance and music while also becoming aware of restrictions involved with being Torah observant.

Several years after marrying and having daughters of her own, Nahari started the Jewish Center for the Performing Arts, a space for women and girls to learn and explore expression in dance and music while remaining within the frum community. At the end of each academic year, the students perform a show that is directed and choreographed by Nahari, for exclusively female audiences.

Tickets are $25 and $35 in advance, $35 and $45. For more information call 718-513-6257 or email info@jewishperformingarts.com.
