Shulamith and Shalhevet join challah bake

Posted

The Midreshet Shalhevet and the Shulamith School for Girls each joined the recent challah bake action that played out at the Sands Atlantic Beach (where 1,300 women and girls participated in the Great Challah Bake Long Island Style) and at schools and other venues throughout Long Island.

Over 300 Shulamith mothers, daughters, grandmothers and sisters gathered at Beth Shalom in Lawrence on Nov. 16 to celebrate the special mitzvah of challah.

Chevi Kail, Tzippy Chait and Camille Weiss led the evening, sharing the meaning of each ingredient as it was added to the dough. The principals of each division of Shulamith — Estee Scher, Joyce Yarmak, Dr. Evelyn Gross, Rookie Billet Mrs. Rina Zerykier — enhanced the celebration. The evening ended with a spirited, spiritual kumzits led by Adina Wolf and accompanied by Shulamith High School students.

Through the Jewish Education Program of Long Island, public school girls joined Shalhevet girls at a very special bake.
