Senior-aiding Metropair expanding to Nassau

Posted

Project Metropair, which has been providing free minor home repairs and safety/security upgrades to New York City’s low-income seniors since 1995, is expanding to Nassau County.

Nassau seniors over 60 years of age who show financial need will qualify for assistance.

Metropair repairmen, employees of Met Council’s social services department, have been trained by social workers to identify more serious health and well-being concerns.

Visits by the repairmen have averted the dangers caused by poor conditions in the home and effectively forestalled crises, including premature hospitalization and institutionalization.

From installation of grab bars, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, doorbells and air conditioners, to replacement of broken locks, electrical outlets, repair of drippy faucets and drains, Metropair offers an extensive list of free services.  Upon approval of a simple application, each program member may receive up to four visits per year, not including safety/security related emergencies. There are no associated costs to clients; labor and materials are included.

The courteous and properly insured staff carry company IDs and possesses a variety of skills honed over many years.

Project Metropair, made possible in New York City by the City Council and Department of the Aging, is supported on Long Island by UJA-Federation of New York.
