HALB’s Lev Chana kids learn about fire safety

Posted

Fire Chief Adiv Koenig and Firefighter Evan Perlzweig, of the Woodmere Volunteer Fire Department, drove into the HALB Lev Chana Early Childhood Center parking lot in their shiny red ladder truck. They visited each class and spoke about basic safety rules. One vital message Adiv reiterated is that the firefighters are our friends, even though they may look scary in their special clothing and equipment, especially the mask.

As Evan pointed out the various pieces of clothing and equipment they wear, Adiv repeatedly asked, “Are firefighters our friends?” “Do we run to them or away from them?” “Do we ever hide from a firefighter?” He wanted the children to understand and internalize the fact that, in an emergency, the firefighters will protect us.

Evan went around hi-fiving the children, and encouraged them to touch his special clothing and equipment.
