One of Nassau County’s budding scientists, Justin Lish of Woodmere, returned from four weeks on the Weizmann Institute’s campus in Rehovot, Israel.

Lish, class of 2016 salutatorian at HAFTR HS, was one of 20 talented teens from across the United States selected to participate in the Weizmann Institute’s annual Dr. Bessie F. Lawrence International Summer Science Institute, a prestigious program that affords students, all on full scholarship, the opportunity to conduct research with world-renowned scientists in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and computer science.

During his time at the Institute, Lish pursued his interest in renewable energy by working in the Department of Materials and Interfaces.

“I have never had a research experience quite like what I gained at Weizmann,” said Lish, who will be spending a gap year in Israel before matriculating to the University of Pennsylvania

“Not only did I learn new laboratory techniques, but I was introduced to an entirely new field of material science and chemistry that I previously knew nothing about.”
