WEST HEMPSTEAD TISH

A highlight of the DRS year is the annual West Hempstead Tisch.

Nearly 40 boys living in West Hempstead invite over 100 boys from other communities to their houses for Shabbos — another example of the incredible achdut for which DRS is famous.

On Friday Night, the Schwalbs hosted all 150 boys for an incredible tisch that featured lively singing, chulent, dancing, and divrei Torah from students and rabbeim.

On Shabbos day, the Strauss family hosted all of the students for an inspiring Seudat Shlishit with more singing, Torah and enjoyable food.

MALAVE MALKA

The sounds of lively music and dancing filled the air at DRS Yeshiva High School’s 17th annual parent-son malave malka.

Menahel Rabbi Yisroel Kaminetsky remarked that the goal of the malave malka is to celebrate “the joy, fulfillment and meaning that there is in being a Jew” and to highlight the “positive Jewish energy that [the yeshiva] strives to inculcate in its talmidim with song, divrei Torah, food and dancing.” This event is the one night that the entire yeshiva family — rabbeim, parents, and talmidim, get together to honor the positive spirit of being Jewish.

The evening commenced with a kumzitz in the beit midrash led by members of the DRS student band and DRS faculty; much achdut and ruach were present. Parents and sons sang together in unison; videos, highlighting events from the year, were shown as the singing and music rang out. Students were also honored with the student-voted middot and Torah growth awards for each grade and shiur

“The malave malka really shows what DRS is all about, and it was truly a great experience,” said Harrison Chwat ’19.

Rabbi Aryeh Lebowitz was honored for his 18 years of dedication and commitment to the yeshiva during which he inspired hundred of students, turning on countless talmidim to the joy of talmud Torah. A video tribute was played in honor of Rabbi Lebowitz and he was also was presented with a plaque.

The malave malka continued in the gym where the parents and students enjoyed a delicious dairy buffet together and, together with faculty, then danced together for hours.

“It was really great to see everyone sing and dance together and the atmosphere was incredible,” said Jakey Friedman ’18.
