Crocs and tichels…Can I wear them?

Dear Aviva,

I like wearing snoods and tichels but I don’t like my friends telling me that I’m wearing a rag or look like I just got out of bed. I legitimately think that tichels look beautiful. I know a lot of snoods are ugly, but they make pretty ones too. While we’re on this, why does everyone hate Crocs? I like Crocs. Most normal shoes hurt. Why does everyone have to hate things that are comfortable?

Dear Comfy in her Clothes,

Okay, I’m really getting some mixed signals from you. You like wearing tichels, and you think that tichels look beautiful. That’s very good. I’m happy to hear that you are wearing something that you think looks good. And here I would say, “To heck with what your friends say!” If you feel comfortable and beautiful, then it’s a winner in my book. (Plus, I love the gypsy/moshav look.)

Now on to snoods. So, according to you, some are ugly and some are pretty. The question begs: Which ones are you wearing? I hope your answer is “The pretty ones, duh!” And now, I hope you donate the ugly ones that you own and vow to stop buying things that you think are ugly. Why? Because if you are wearing something that you think is ugly (even if the comfort level far outweighs the look factor), you will begin to associate yourself with this ugly item. And if your friends think your ugly snood actually is pretty, you still should not be wearing it if you think it’s ugly. Our outsides affect our insides. If the worth of your snood equals ugly, then your self-worth wouldn’t lag that far behind.

And the opposite is true as well. If you are wearing something that you deem beautiful, it will be mirrored by how you feel when you wear it. And this is still true even if your friends say that it is ugly.
