An open house proclaims, ‘Make HANC Yours’

The Hebrew Academy of Nassau County High School welcomed eighth grade prospective students and parents to its annual Open House last Sunday. The theme of this year’s open house was MAKE HANC YOURS. The program was devoted to showing guests how the HANC High School experience is personalized.

After breakfast, the program began with remarks from HANC Menahel, Rabbi Shlomo Adelman, who discussed the excellence and vibrancy that define this outstanding yeshiva.  The standing-room-only crowd then heard delivered a d’var Torah and described their high school experience; the rigorous curriculum, the warmth, and the various opportunities afforded to the students at HANC.  The opening session concluded with an awesome video, which can be viewed on the HANC website (www.hanc.org).

Parents and students proceeded to classrooms, where they attended mini-lessons given by faculty members in both limudei kodesh and general studies.

Following the lessons, students and parents participated in informational showcases. Parents attended an academic fair in the library, where the chairs and directors of the various departments gave presentations and were on hand to answer questions. High tables and stools were set up for prospective parents to view the HANC Academic Profile at the iPad stations.

The parents then attended a parent panel, where they asked questions to current parents, alumni, and students. The prospective students chose two out of five electives in the Student Expo, which showcased topics such as Engineering, Coding, Art, Sports, and a Student Panel.

The program concluded with a student fair, where extra-curricular activities were featured. Prospective students had a great time taking pictures at the MAKE HANC YOURS photo wall, noshing on pizza and popcorn, and receiving sweatpants.

At the conclusion of the Open House, guests expressed appreciation for being able to interact with HANC students, parents and faculty. “What an impressive group of students,” one parent remarked. “The ambassadors were helpful, friendly and poised. The classes were advanced and interesting. It really gave us a genuine feel for the school.”
