Last year, Dr. Rochelle Brand, principal of HAFTR Middle School, understood that the universal challenge of bully prevention was a critical need for the students. Mrs. Yali Werzberger, the school’s psychologist and director of student services, identified the evidence-based Olweus Bully Prevention Program as a program that could help address this need. The school community eagerly embraced the program and implemented it throughout last year. Now, with their extensive training in the program, students at HAFTR Middle School are well-aware of how to identify, prevent, report and respond to bullying behavior. more
Under the trying conditions of a pre-Shabbat snow storm, the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway hosted the annual HAFTR Invitational Scott Satran Memorial Tournament last weekend and came out winners in more ways than one. more
HAFTR High School hosted Alumni Day for all of its High School students on Dec. 23. This unique program provided an opportunity for HAFTR alumni to return to their alma mater and offer insights on what students might expect from the world once they leave HAFTR’s halls. more

HAFTR High School’s College Bowl teams hosted the first Yeshiva League College Bowl meet of the year at Congregation Beth Sholom of Lawrence last Thursday. About 100 participants from HAFTR, Central, DRS, Rambam, Shalhevet, North Shore, HANC, and SKA engaged in games of academic trivia. more
The trip for HAFTR’s eighth grade boys began with a chesed activity at the Masbiah Soup kitchen where they packed food packages to be delivered in communities around Brooklyn and Queens. more
A model of the Bait Hamikdash — the Temple that was on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem — is coming to Long Island in the New Year, part of a campaign to make Judaism’s ancient spiritual citadel something tangible, right here, right now. “People sometimes think that the Bait Hamikdash (Temple) has nothing to do with us,” said Rabbi Mordechai Persoff, educational director of Machon Hamikdash (Temple Institute). “It was 2,000 years ago, or it’s for the times of Mashiach another 2,000 years from now.” more

Challenging students to focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and having them use that knowledge to produce a project which could spur them to a career applying those principles is the mission of the Manhattan-based Center for Initiatives in Jewish Education.
